What Is A Mezzanine Floor?

Where and why is there such a thing as a Mezzanine Floor? WHERE: usually these floors are found in between the ground-floor/basement and the first floor of most buildings, where the ground-floor/basement has a very high ceiling so it can be divided into two levels, thus creating more space.

Usually, the foyer or front entrance would be one floor with a high ceiling and with part of the ground-floor/basement, underneath and the mezzanine would then be further into the building where the separation into that floor is usually hidden by the bank of lifts.

Access to this floor is usually by a dedicated flight of stairs on the side or a dedicated lift that will open on that floor from the rear of that lift.

WHY: used mostly for storage as to not waste space but also used for smaller and cheaper office space.
